5S+1 Audit Example

Problem Statement

Audit a selected area for 5S. Score each element of the 5S score & provide observations for improvement.

How to perform analysis

Step 1: Open Sigma Magic
  1. Click on the Sigma Magic button on the Excel toolbar.
  2. Click on the New button to create a new project.
Step 2: Add the analysis template
  1. Click on the Tool Wizard to add the analysis template.
  2. Click on Lean and then 5s+1 Audit.


Step 3: Specify analysis options
A new worksheet will be added to your workbook. Analysis Setup will be automatically openedin the setup tab specify the chart type.



Click Create, the worksheet will created. Enter all the details and provide quantitative score and over all score.



Then click on Checklist, all items on the checklist should be marked.



If you need to make changes to the charts, specify the optional settings in the Charts tab.

 Labels:

  • Add a title for the chart.
  • Label the X-axis and Y-axis appropriately.

Appearance:

  • Adjust colors, font sizes, or other visual elements as needed.
  • Enable/disable gridlines or background shading.


Step 4: Generate analysis results
Finally, click the Verify tab to ensure all the inputs are okay and shown in a green checkmark.



Click on Ok to close the dialog box.

Interpreting results

The following conclusion can be drawn from this analysis.
  1. The average score of the audit is 74.80%, which means that the level of adherence to the 5S+1 principles is moderate.
  2. There is still room for improvement since some audit elements scored much lower than others, as shown in the bar chart.
  3. High scores in some areas mean good practices in specific elements, such as well-labeled documents, proper labeling of containers, and clean work surfaces.
  4. The team is effectively applying some 5S principles, such as Shine and Set in Order.
  5. Elements with lower scores suggest areas that need attention, such as:
  6. Removal of unnecessary items (Sort).
  7. Ensuring all tools and equipment are in good condition (Shine).
  8. Easy accessibility of frequently used tools and materials (Set in Order).
