Interpreting Results
Overall Performance
Actual SMED Time: 47 minutes
Target SMED Time: 22 minutes
Percentage Reduction: 53.2%
The team has been able to reduce the SMED time significantly, more than the target of 50%. This is a good sign and shows that lean implementation has been successful.
Stage-wise Analysis
The "SMED Time Split Up by Stage" graph gives the time spent in various stages of the SMED process.
Internal: 37 minutes
External: 10 minutes
Internal activities are those that can be done only while the machine is idle, while external activities may be done on the production side. The above analysis reveals that much of the time is still utilized by internal activities.
Time Saved and Efficiency Improved
10-20% of changeover time saved.
Better usage of resources with less downtime.
Reliability improved and consistency better.
Changeover time reduction enhances the on-time performance.
Aircraft utilization and efficiency in operations enhance.
