How to perform Analysis
Step 1:Open Sigma Magic
Click on theSigma Magicbutton on the Excel toolbar.
Click on the New button to create a new project.
Step 2: Add the analysis template
Click on theTool Wizard to add the analysis template.
Click on Lean and then Spaghetti Diagram.
Step 3: Specify analysis options
A new worksheet will be added to your workbook. Analysis Setupwill be automatically opened, in the setup tab specify the following details.
Then click Resources and specify the details for each resource.
Click on Path button on the task menubar to add or edit the path. A dialog box such as the one shown below will be opened.
The Verify button can be used to see any errors on the Spaghetti diagram or if everything is okay.
Click on the My Shapes button to view the shapes on your worksheet. This dialog box can delete any stray or duplicate shapes you inadvertently created. You can also highlight or unhighlight portions of the map using this dialog box. A sample screenshot is shown below.
Step 4: Enter the worksheet data
Below is an example of the completed worksheet.
If you need to make changes to the charts, click on the Analysis Setup and then the Charts tab. You can specify the following details,
Labels:
Add a title for the chart.
Label the X-axis and Y-axis appropriately.
Appearance:
Adjust colors, font sizes, or other visual elements as needed.
Enable/disable gridlines or background shading.
Step 5: Generate analysis results
Finally, click on Verify tab to ensure all the inputs are okay and shown in a green checkmark.
Click on OK to close the dialog box.
Interpreting Results
Distance Analysis:
Total distance traveled is 20.78 meters (Resource 1).
This shows inefficiency in case the paths taken are too long or redundant.
Movement Patterns:
The paths from desks to warehouse and other resources overlap, indicating multiple crisscrossing movements.
The cluttered flow suggests that there is room for improvement in the workspace layout to avoid unnecessary travel.
Time and Cost Charts:
Minimal time (0.002 hours) and cost (0.42 currency units) are attached to the movement. However, these values probably are estimates on the basis of distance.
