How to perform Analysis

Step 1: Open Sigma Magic
  1. Click on the Sigma Magic button on the Excel toolbar.
  2. Click on the New button to create a new project.
Step 2: Add the analysis template
  1. Click on the Tool Wizard to add the analysis template.
  2. Click on Lean and then Time Study.

Step 3: Specify analysis options
A new worksheet will be added to your workbook. Analysis Setup will be automatically opened, in the setup tab specify the following details.

Click on Analyze button to save changes and update your analysis results.A sample screenshot of the worksheet is shown below.

If you need to make changes to the charts, click on the Analysis Setup and then the Charts tab. You can specify the following details,

 Labels:

  • Add a title for the chart.
  • Label the X-axis and Y-axis appropriately.

Appearance:

  • Adjust colors, font sizes, or other visual elements as needed.
  • Enable/disable gridlines or background shading.

Finally, click on Verify tab to ensure all the inputs are okay and shown in a green checkmark.

Step 4: Generate analysis result
Click Create and then click Compute Output to see the overall result.

Interpreting Results

Total Process Time: The total process time for all steps is 37.67 seconds.

Process Step Time: The time study bar chart displays the average time taken for each process step. The longest average time is seen in "Get part from the tub" at 20 seconds and "Load part onto the fixture" at 15 seconds.

Range of times for each step: Indicates the variability of the process
Example: Getting tape from the dispenser, this is the time range, that is 5 to 79 seconds, hence very large range and significant variability in how long it takes

Variability: The steps where high variability occurred, such as "getting tape from dispenser," might show an inconsistent process or operators' performance, which may result in inefficiencies and errors.

Large Cycle times: The activities "Get part from the tub" and "Load part onto the fixture have long cycle times. This seems like step bottlenecks in the main procedure. Optimization will result in quite a number of improvements in its efficiency.
