How to perform Analysis

Step 1: Open Sigma Magic
  1. Click on the Sigma Magic button on the Excel toolbar.
  2. Click on the New button to create a new project.
Step 2: Add the analysis template
  1. Click on the Tool Wizard to add the analysis template.
  2. Click on Lean  and then Workload Balance.

Step 3:  Specify analysis options
A new worksheet will be added to your workbook. Analysis Setup will be automatically opened, in the setup tab specify the following details.

Click on Analyze button to save changes and update your analysis results.A sample screenshot of the worksheet is shown below.

If you need to make changes to the charts, click on the Analysis Setup and then the Charts tab. You can specify the following details,

 Labels:

  • Add a title for the chart.
  • Label the X-axis and Y-axis appropriately.

Appearance:

  • Enable/disable gridlines or background shading.

Finally, click on Verify tab to ensure all the inputs are okay and shown in a green checkmark.

Step 4: Generate analysis result
Click Create and click Compute Outputs to see the overall result.

Interpreting Results

Minimum Number of People needed 1
Bottleneck does not exist in this process.

Workload Balancing 2
Average =2
Cum =8
Sum =8

Cycle Time - TAKT Time Curve
Max Cycle Time: 6
TAKT Time: 10

Minimum Number of People needed: The final page is the summary that says only one person will be needed to perform this process. This means that the process was efficiently designed and redundant actions or unnecessary sources were avoided.

No Bottlenecks: In the absence of bottlenecks, work will move without major time delay in one stage of operation. It will help ensure an efficient process while maintaining its regularity.

Balance in Workload: The value for Average, Cum, and Sum shows the equilibrium of the workloads assigned among the involved resources. There won't be the overutilization of a specific resource with a few of the remaining underutilized resources.

Cycle Time - TAKT Time Chart:The Max Cycle Time being 6 and TAKT Time being 10 shows that it can meet demand. TAKT Time means the available time to produce each unit of the customer's demand. Since Max Cycle Time is less than the TAKT Time, in theory, the process would be able to produce more units than the quantity demanded.
