Hoshin plan example

Problem Statement

Select a department within your company and create a Hoshin for that department.

How to perform analysis

Step 1: Open Sigma Magic
  1. Click on the Sigma Magic button on the Excel toolbar.
  2. Click on the New button to create a new project.
Step 2: Add the analysis template
  1. Click on the Tool Wizard to add the analysis template.
  2. Click on Lean and then Hoshin Plans.
Step 3: Specify analysis options
A new worksheet will be added to your workbook. Analysis Setup will be automatically openedin the setup tab specify the number of rows.



 Click on Checklist tab, then the input dialog box asks a set of questions regarding Hoshin plan you are creating. 



Click on Verify tab, you will see that some of the checkmarks are not verified; to get them verified you need to fill the matrix on the worksheet.



Step 4: Enter the worksheet data
Below is an example of the completed worksheet.



Step 5: Generate analysis results
Finally, click on Analysis Setup and then Verify tab to ensure all the inputs are okay and shown in a green checkmark.



Click on OK to close the dialog box.

Interpreting results

The following conclusion can be drawn from this analysis.
  1. Strategic Focus: The company will focus on world-class quality production, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth through new product introductions and market expansion.
  2. Key Priorities: Increasing the product portfolio, reducing customer complaints, and improving loyalty are all well-aligned with the 3-5 year strategy.
  3. Resource Allocation: Resources are well-aligned to high-priority goals; however, there are some areas that need more focus, such as deploying performance improvement methods.
  4. Identified gaps: Some of the items such as NPI timeline tracking are needed to have additional data and focus.
  5. Action: Ongoing monitoring, resolution of flagged gaps, and resource optimization are critical in order to attain strategic goals.
