Create an implementation plan for creating a small program to determine total sales figures.
Step 3: Specify analysis options
A new worksheet will be added to your workbook. Analysis Setup will be automatically opened, in the setup tab specify the following details.
Step 4: Enter the Worksheet data
Click on Create button to save all changes in the analysis. On the worksheet, enter the following details. Enter the information on the worksheet, such as the action
items, the person(s) responsible for the action items, the start date, and the
due date for each action item. Periodically update the status of the
implementation plan by entering the status from one of the following options:
TBA, Assigned, Pending, Started, WIP, Completed, or Cancelled. A sample worksheet is given below:
Step 5: Generate analysis results
Finally, click on Analysis Setup and then click on the Verify tab to ensure all the inputs are okay and shown in a green checkmark.
Interpretating Results
1. Project: Sigma Magic - Problem Implementation:
- The plan focuses on a project called "Sigma Magic," specifically addressing "Problem Implementation." This suggests a software development or process improvement initiative.
2. Defined Action Items with Assigned Personnel:
- The plan outlines specific action items (tasks) necessary for implementation, such as "Develop algorithm outline," "Develop test cases," etc.
- Each action item is assigned to a specific person (identified as A, C, and S in this case). This establishes clear responsibility and accountability.
3. Timelines and Status Tracking:
- Each action item has a defined "Start Date" and "Due Date," enabling progress tracking against the planned schedule.
- The "Status" column indicates the current state of each task (Completed, WIP - Work in Progress, Pending). This allows for quick identification of potential delays or bottlenecks.
4. Indicators for Performance Evaluation:
- The "Indicator" column provides a qualitative assessment of the task's progress (Closed, Behind). This offers a high-level view of whether tasks are on track or require attention.
5. Early Stage of Implementation with Some Delays:
- The plan appears to be in the early stages of execution. While some tasks ("Develop algorithm outline" and "Develop test cases") are completed, others are still in progress or facing delays.
- "Develop program & document code" is marked as "WIP" and "Behind," indicating a potential schedule slippage. "Test program" and "Release program" are also behind schedule and marked as "Pending," suggesting that the issues with the "Develop program & document code" are impacting downstream tasks.
6. Need for Corrective Actions and Schedule Review:
- The identified delays necessitate a review of the plan and potential corrective actions.
- The project team needs to investigate the reasons for the delay in "Develop program & document code" and adjust the schedule or allocate additional resources to bring the project back on track.
- The downstream tasks ("Test program" and "Release program") will also need their dates adjusted based on the updated timeline.
Overall Interpretation:
The Implementation Plan provides a structured approach to the Sigma Magic project. While the initial phase has seen some completed tasks, the delays in key development activities require immediate attention and corrective actions to ensure the project's successful and timely completion. Continuous monitoring and regular updates to the plan are crucial for effective project management.
