Problem Statement

Use a project selection filter to determine the methodology and select projects for launch. A few key facts about the project are shown below.

How to perform analysis

Step 1: Open Sigma Magic
  1. Click on the Sigma Magic button on the Excel toolbar.
  2. Click on the New button to create a new project.
Step 2: Add the analysis template
  1. Click on the Tool Wizard to add the analysis template.
  2. Click on Project and then Project Filter.


Step 3: Specify analysis options
A new worksheet will be added to your workbook. Analysis Setup will be automatically opened, in the setup tab specify the following details.



Click on the AHP Weights based on the relative weights specified by the user for two factors, the software translates them into an overall score for each factor. These weights can then be used to determine the overall score of each project.



If you need to make changes to the charts, specify the optional settings in the Charts tab.

 Labels:

  • Add a title for the chart.
  • Label the X-axis and Y-axis appropriately.

Appearance:

  • Adjust colors, font sizes, or other visual elements as needed.
  • Enable/disable gridlines or background shading.


Step 4: Enter the details in worksheet
Click Create, the worksheet will created and then enter all the details. A sample is provided below:



Step 5: Generate analysis results
Finally, click on Verify tab and then click Analyze to ensure all the inputs are okay and shown in a green checkmark.



Interpreting Results

  1. The highest-ranked project is "Improve sales in the North region" (6.8), which indicates that it has the most positive balance of benefits, costs, duration, and risks.
  2. The lowest-ranked project is "Form to collect user data" with a score of 3.3, suggesting it may be more risky or have fewer benefits compared to the other projects.
  3. All three projects align with the company's strategy at either a high or medium level, so they will add to business goals.
  4. Sponsorship is available for all projects, which increases the chances of successful execution.
  5. Two projects use Data Analysis as a solution type, which indicates that the improvement is analytics-driven.
  6. One project, "Form to collect user data," is based on a Known Solution, which may be easier to implement.
  7. The highest risk project is "Form to collect user data" (Risk = 5), which may pose a challenge.
  8. "Project to reduce transportation" has a longer duration (5) than others, which might affect resource allocation.
  9. PDCA and JDI are used for medium-priority projects, possibly indicating iterative improvements or simpler solutions.
  10. The "Improve sales in the North region" project is the best option for prioritization due to its high benefits, strategic importance, and moderate risk.
