Data Tables

Data Tables

Any data you wish to explore must be in Excel tables. All tables have a name and a header row containing the column's name. A table can host any data type - like dates, text, or numbers. All columns of the table have the same number of rows. If you have data with different numbers of rows, you can create separate tables for each data set.

Here are some steps to convert a range to a table:
  1. Select the cells with your data.
  2. Select Home > Format as Table
  3. Choose a style for your table
  4. In the Create Table dialog box, set your cell range
  5. Make sure that your table has headers.
  6. Select OK

Idea
Each table has a name. The figure shows the table name as Table1. Renaming a table to something more meaningful for your project is a good idea.

Idea
The keyboard shortcut to convert a range into a table is Ctrl-T.

Notes
Sigma Magic refers to the data in a table using the combination of table name and column header name. For example, Table1 > Diameter.
