Software Options

Software Options

The software options contain generic settings that apply to all analyses. To access this dialog, click the Options button on the main menu bar.

Install Settings
A sample dialog box of the install settings is shown below:

Release Shared License: If you use a shared license key, you can specify if you want to release the Sigma Magic license to other users when you exit Excel. If you set this option to Yes, the software will automatically try to acquire a license when you enter Sigma Magic and release the license key when you exit Sigma Magic. If you set this option to No, then the software will not try to acquire or release the license key. The default setting is set to Yes.

Check Updates: You can specify how frequently you want the software to check our server to see if a new updated version of the software is available for download. If you set it to Weekly, then once a week, the software will check if a new version is available. We recommend periodically checking this and updating your software version to the latest release.

Catchup Delay: Sometimes, Excel may run behind on resources, so certain actions may not be completed. For example, if Sigma Magic tries copying and pasting an image to the worksheet, the software paste operation may fail because the copy action was not completed. In these cases, you can specify a delay between processing steps so that the software will wait for the action to be completed before executing the next step. You may want to use a non-zero value if you don't have a powerful computer RAM or sufficient memory to complete the operations.

Default Printer: It has been observed that Excel may be very slow to complete certain operations when it is waiting to communicate with the printer. For example, when we Compute Outputs for an analysis, we regenerate the print area. If the printer is offline or slow, it delays the Sigma Magic software from completing its actions. Setting this printer to a Microsoft Print to PDF setting will usually speed up the Sigma Magic analysis.

Info Messages: Information and Error messages are usually displayed by popping up a new dialog box. However, this may be disruptive in some cases. By changing this setting, you can specify that Sigma Magic should not use a pop-up window but display the message in the Status bar.

Help Viewer: You can specify if you want to view the help files locally on your computer or use the help content available on our website. Using the local content is fine if you use the latest software version. The website usually contains the information from the newest version. Note that viewing the help content on the website requires Internet access.

Log Files: If you encounter technical issues using the software, you can set the Log Files option to Yes. This will save an additional log file to your hard disk - this file can be used to identify the point at which a problem may arise. You should set this option to No by default and only use it when trying to debug an issue.

General Settings
A sample dialog box of the General Settings is shown below:

Date Format: Specify how you want the software to display the dates.

Number Format: Specify how you want to display the numbers in the analysis.

Graph Height: The height of the graph window.

Graph Width: The width of the graph window (Auto will set this to the width of the cell in which it is located).

Graph Spacing: The spacing between the graphs.

Graph Line/Marker Size: Specify the graph border, line, and marker size.

External Files
The following dialog box displays any external files used by the Sigma Magic software.

Project Folder: This specifies the default folder from which Sigma Magic will look for project files when you open a new project.

Data Folder: This specifies the folder to look for data to load for your project.

Browser File: This specifies the browser used for viewing web content. The default (if left blank) is to use Internet Explorer. You can specify a different browser to use - such as Google Chrome, Firefox, etc. by selecting the executable file.

R Script File: Specify the file used to execute the R software script files - this is used only for Analytics software functionality.

Worksheet Logo: If you want to use your logo for the worksheet, you can specify an image file. This will replace the Sigma Magic logo displayed on the worksheet's top left.

PowerPoint File: Specify the template to use when you export the Excel analysis content to PowerPoint.

Thresholds
The following dialog box shows the default threshold values used by the software. You can change these default values by specifying new values here. Click on the Reset button to reset these values to default.
